I would say my top advice is to just build the connection with the client and then the work will go from there. There will be times on a call with a client when you don't know the answer to their questions and that's okay. As a consultant, you won't know everything, it is important to say to the client that you don't know the answer and that you will look into for them. That comes over time and as you build the relationships with the clinet to gain the confidence to do that.

Senior Financials Consultant

Kognitiv

Company

What do you like about your job and the company?

I absolutely love my job and the company that I work for. Kognitiv has helped me grow from an Associate Financials Consultant to a Senior. When I first started, I went through a 6 month training program to gain the knowledge of Workday Financials to be able to take on and apply that knowledge to ticket work. Here at Kognitiv, we have great team members that can help you out on a ticket that you may not know the answer too. Everyone is willing to help out to make sure we are providing the best work we can to the client!

Greatest achievements

Some of my greatest career achievements come from client feedback and completing implementations. Client feedback is something that a client can state to either you or your manager or someone else in the organization to say about how as a consultant you have really helped them achieve what they are looking for. Completing implementations is also a great achievement as a consultant. When you are able to bring a client from start to finish on a project, it is very rewarding.

You likely won't be able to step into this role and a new way of life and hit the ground running. My suggestion is to pace yourself. Learn the business and the flow of how things work. You will make mistakes. OWN THEM! You will have difficult conversations. OWN THEM! You will have triumphs that overshadow all. RELISH THEM! Once you have hit your stride. FLY! Take the rest of your team at KOG with you. Learn together. Grow together. Get a mentor early. Reach out and be social as much as you can. Consulting is difficult enough as it is, being 100% remote can add some unexpected rough air to the mix. Know that you are surrounded by like-minded resources that have traversed the same path as you. I would hope that you feel comfortable enough to reach out to me if you find yourself on the other side of the hire date!

You can’t be a know-it-all, so my advice is simple: Be a Lifelong Learner. Stay curious, keep exploring, and never be afraid to ask for help. My journey from an MBA in HR to diving into Workday Consulting has taught me that there’s always something new to learn. The key is to stay curious, ask questions, and keep growing because when you’re constantly learning, there’s no limit to what you can achieve!
