The hardest part of my role is a challenge I've faced in every place I have worked: Communication. Unless you live and work under a rock, chances are communication is a pretty big part of your day-to-day experience. You likely have to communicate ideas and information to a variety of stakeholders. In consulting this is multiplied by however many clients you are working with at a given time. Every client organization and the individuals that make it up have different communication preferences and styles that you must learn in order to communicate most effectively with those parties. You must also consider the mode of communication - can you provide a clear, concise explanation in ticket update, or would it be more straightforward to discuss the topic on a Zoom call? (Hint: When in doubt, it's the latter!) What's going on in Workday is not always easy to put into words. Communication misfires can lead to misunderstandings and frustration on the client's part if you're not careful and deliberate, so I always take great care when handling my correspondences with clients. It's a lot of work, but in the end it saves time and makes everyone happier!
